For Mac and iPad, version 1.0.0
Need help? Email support@montielmobile.com. Include your device (Mac or iPad), its OS version, and the app version, shown at the top of Help. Please never send your Alpaca secret key.
The app’s built-in Help explains every feature: choose Help › Options Organizer Help (⌘?) on the Mac, or tap ? in Settings on the iPad.
Getting started
How do I get Alpaca API keys?
- Sign up at alpaca.markets. A free paper-trading account is enough.
- Confirm your email and set up multi-factor authentication.
- In the dashboard, switch to your Paper Trading account. Paper and live accounts have separate keys.
- Click Generate New Keys and copy both the key ID and the secret right away. The secret isn’t shown again.
- In Options Organizer, open Settings › Alpaca, paste both keys, leave Account set to Paper, and click Save and Test.
Do I need to enter my keys on every device?
No. Keys sync through iCloud Keychain, so they appear on your other devices signed in to the same Apple Account, usually within a minute or two. Make sure iCloud Keychain is turned on.
Sync and iCloud
My data doesn’t appear on a new device
Your data syncs through your private iCloud database, and the encryption key syncs separately through iCloud Keychain. On a new device:
- Sign in with the same Apple Account, and turn on iCloud Keychain.
- Stay online and give it a few minutes. The app shows Syncing with iCloud, Waiting for iCloud or Waiting for iCloud Keychain until it has what it needs. It waits rather than creating a new encryption key, so your devices keep sharing the same one.
- If another device is still missing data after that, open Settings › iCloud Sync on the device that has it and choose Re-upload Data to iCloud.
“Encryption Key Doesn’t Match”
The data in iCloud was encrypted with a different key from the one on this device. This can happen if iCloud Keychain was off when the data was first created. Turn on iCloud Keychain on every device and wait a few minutes, then choose Try Again. Start Over deletes all your data on every device, so use it only as a last resort.
“N synced records couldn’t be decrypted”
Some records in iCloud were written with a different encryption key. The app leaves them in place rather than deleting them. Contact us if this doesn’t clear up after your devices have synced.
Prices and Greeks
Why don’t option prices match my broker?
On Alpaca’s free plan, option quotes come from its indicative feed. It’s derived from OPRA data, but the quotes aren’t tradeable prices, and the app labels them that way. If you subscribe to Alpaca’s OPRA feed, choose it in Settings › Alpaca › Options Feed. Stock quotes on the free plan come from the IEX exchange.
Why are some Greeks in italics, or marked “calc”?
When Alpaca doesn’t supply Greeks for a contract, the app solves implied volatility from the quote midpoint and calculates the Greeks itself. You choose the pricing model, risk-free rate and dividend yields in Settings. These are model estimates, and wide quotes can make them less reliable.
What units do the Greeks use?
Theta is per calendar day, vega per 1 volatility point and rho per 1 rate point. Position Greeks multiply the per-share values by the open quantity and the contract multiplier of 100.
Positions
How are broker fees counted?
Set Settings › Broker Fees › Option fee per order. The fee applies once to each option order, opening or closing, however many contracts it covers. Stock trades and options marked expired worthless have no fee. Each trade records the fee in effect when you entered it.
How do I import trades from my broker?
Choose Import CSV in Positions and match the file’s columns to leg fields. Contracts can be described by an OCC symbol (such as AAPL260116C00230000) or by separate underlying, type, strike and expiration columns. Quantity and price are required. You can save a mapping to reuse with later files.
How do I fix a mistake?
Edit the position and open the leg to delete a closing, or use the leg’s trash button to remove a leg entered by mistake. For shares, use Delete Lot on the lot.
Privacy
Options Organizer has no accounts, ads, analytics or tracking. It connects only to Alpaca for market data and to your own iCloud. See the privacy policy. To erase everything, choose Settings › Privacy › Delete All Data.
